Part of the African Diaspora International Film Festival
A brilliant fisherman's son enrolls at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the epicenter of Sunni Islam, but quickly becomes an unwilling pawn in a ruthless political and religious power struggle. The film offers a direct critique of the intricate and often corrupt relationship between religious authority and government control in contemporary Egypt, a powerful message that led to its official ban in Egypt, with director Tarik Saleh permanently barred from filming and facing arrest if he attempts to enter the country.
